Allergy Testing and Treatments
Emirates Dermatology and Cosmetology Center provides a range of allergy tests and treatment services that can help improve and preserve your skin. Our dermatologists are highly skilled and employ the most effective methods for diagnosing the factors that trigger allergies, and for managing chronic skin conditions, which ensures that you get the most effective treatment for your skin issues.
1. Patch Test
Allergy patch testing is used to determine substances that may cause skin allergy in a particular individual.
While conducting the test, our dermatologists put small samples of the possible allergens on the patches that are then stuck on your back. These patches are left on the skin for 48 hours and once they are peeled off, the skin is checked for reactions such as redness or itching.
Patch Testing identifies the specific allergens, and therefore, we can develop a tailor-made treatment plan for your condition. If you have skin itching, rashes, or other skin problems of which you cannot account, then it is high time you visited us.
2. Prick Testing
Allergy prick test is one of the fastest and easiest methods of finding out what you are allergic to.
In this test, a small amount of the substance that is being tested is applied on the skin, preferably on the arm or on the back, and then the skin is scratched slightly so that the allergen can penetrate the skin and enter the body slightly. When one is allergic to a substance, within 15 to 20 minutes, a small red bump will form on the skin.
Prick test assists our doctors in identifying the particular allergies that you have and in developing a suitable plan to treat the symptoms. The process is painless, non-invasive, and delivers results almost instantly.
3. Skin Biopsy
A skin biopsy is a fast and painless diagnostic technique that can be used to determine the cause of skin lesions, including skin cancer, infections, and rashes.
Skin biopsy is a procedure where your dermatologist takes a small sample of your skin to analyze it under a microscope. This close-up view is useful in that it enables a detailed examination that can detect diseases which cannot be seen without the use of a lens. The process starts with cleaning and anesthetizing the area, followed by removing a skin sample by either shaving its outer layer or using a small punch tool.
Subsequently, the wound is sutured if required and is dressed with a sterile gauze to maintain its moist environment for healing. The skin that is removed is taken to a laboratory for analysis and your dermatologist will inform you of the findings. This process helps in determining the right diagnosis and also assists in planning for the most appropriate treatment for the skin condition.
