Dermabrasion & Microdermabrasion

Category:

Dermabrasion:
Dermabrasion is a more invasive procedure performed by a dermatologist or plastic surgeon. It involves using a specialized instrument, such as a rotating wire brush or diamond-tipped device, to remove the outermost layers of the skin. The procedure aims to resurface the skin and address concerns like deep wrinkles, scars, and uneven pigmentation.
During dermabrasion, the targeted area is numbed with local anesthesia, and the device is carefully passed over the skin, gently exfoliating the damaged layers. The process results in controlled injury to the skin, prompting the body to produce new, healthier skin cells. After the procedure, the treated area requires some downtime for healing and may exhibit redness, swelling, and crusting. The final results gradually appear over several weeks to months, revealing smoother and more youthful-looking skin.
Dermabrasion is typically recommended for individuals with more significant skin concerns, such as deep acne scars, surgical scars, or pronounced wrinkles. It is generally not suitable for individuals with darker skin tones, as it can lead to uneven pigmentation changes.

Microdermabrasion:
Microdermabrasion is a less invasive and gentler procedure that can be performed by a dermatologist, aesthetician, or even using at-home kits. It uses a handheld device or a wand with a fine abrasive tip to exfoliate the skin. The device sprays or vacuums small crystals or utilizes a diamond-tipped applicator to remove dead skin cells and debris from the skin’s surface.
Microdermabrasion is milder than dermabrasion and primarily targets superficial skin concerns such as mild acne scars, fine lines, clogged pores, and dull skin tone. It requires no anesthesia or downtime, making it a convenient option for those seeking a quick skin refresh. The treatment is typically performed in a series of sessions to achieve optimal results, and maintenance treatments may be recommended.

Treatment Time: 30min-1hr
Best For: deep wrinkles, scars, uneven skin texture, enlarged pores
Downtime: redness, mild swelling
